Pinot Noir and Chardonnay thrive in the 171-acre Ste. Nicolaus Vineyard planted in 1994. The vineyard’s eastern-facing slopes enjoy generous morning sun, and the Lockwood loam and Rincon clay-loam soils are well drained and rocky. These soils challenge the vines to yield grapes of depth, character and intensity. The AVA’s extended growing season allows fruit to ripen slowly and leads to well-balanced, flavorful wines.
