Deep purple in the glass, this wine opens up with aromas of blackberry, dark fruit, and intriguing gamey and leather notes with subtle spice. e palate is rich and full bodied with well-rounded tannins and bursts with flavors of black and blue fruit. Hints of black pepper and baking spice add complexity and depth to a long finish.

Once a cattle ranch, the Hook Vineyard is the farthest south of Hahn’s estate vineyards Monterey Bay, it is nonetheless a cool site, ranging in elevation from 320 to 1,080 above sea level and featuring morning fog and windy afternoons during most of the growing season. With gently sloping hills and well-drained, alluvial soils, Hook Vineyard is planted entirely to red varieties, including only a few blocks of Syrah, which displays deep purple color and complex aromatics.
