2019 Hahn SLH Reserve Pinot Noir

93 pts - Vinous, May 2022
“Deep, brilliant crimson. Displays an array of ripe red fruit, floral and exotic spice qualities on the highly perfumed nose, along with suave vanilla and cola nuances. Shows very good depth as well as energy to its appealingly sweet cherry and Chambord flavors, which are sharpened by a spicy touch of white pepper. Smooth, even tannins build slowly on a persistent finish that strongly echoes the floral and spice notes. 33% new French oak.” - J.R.
Our 2019 Reserve Pinot Noir reflects the cool climate and well-drained soils of our estate vineyards as well as the unique complexity brought on by multiple clones. Pommard 4 clone from Doctor’s vineyard brings balanced structure, earthiness and velvety tannins to this blend and is a favorite clone in the SLH. Smith Vineyard is planted to Calera clone, which is known for its tight small clusters and brings depth, rich color and minerality to the blend. Finally, fruit from Lone Oak vineyard, coming from our famed Orchestral block planted in 2013, duplicating mass variation of many burgundy vineyards with many clones, increases the blend's complexity.
