“Sensuous aromas of dark chocolate and black plum, with a luxurious mouthfeel heightened by a coating of anise and roasted coffee beans. Supple tannins, with tart black cherry lined up against an underlying granite steeliness. Bright acidity balances out the bold structure. Dark fruit and black pepper streamline the finish. A blend of Merlot, Petite Sirah, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in French oak for 26 months.” - M.M.
Located in the Arroyo Seco appellation, the Ste. Philippe Vineyard is in a dry riverbed with sandy loam soils, perfect for growing Merlot, the base of this blend. Petite Sirah, considered the backbone of this blend by Winemaker Paul Clifton, is sourced from two AVAs – Arroyo Seco and San Antonio Valley – both warm growing regions where temperatures foster thick skin and intense structure development. The Malbec is sourced from our Hook Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands, while the Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from the San Antonio Valley.
