The 290-acre Saint Philippe Vineyard is planted to Pinot Noir, Merlot and Grenache. Saint Philippe sits on the valley floor in a dry riverbed with sandy-loam soils. Pinot Noir excels here, producing grapes with dark fruit flavors. Merlot and Grenache grapes also do exceptionally well in Saint Philippe, receiving enough sunshine to ripen fully yet also benefitting from cool coastal influences that slow down photosynthesis for a longer growing season. This extended season ensures more complexity and intensity in the fruit.
